One of the biggest trends of the last 12-18 months has been to move applications into the cloud. However, there is one major problem with cloud solutions and that is your business data and Intellectual Property are not backed up. The fact is, whatever products you use (such as Office365, Google Apps, Salesforce CRM or in fact any cloud application), your data is not backed up. I’m not talking about the applications, because they are spread across multiple data centres and replicate the data around the world so major data losses are very rare.

But, as with most things IT related, most issues stem from you, me, them or anyone who has access to data; we are all prone to deleting things. If you delete something in the cloud it is gone, finito, no more. So with this in mind, if you value your data, you have to back it up.

Applications (apps) are now on every device from PCs and laptops to tablets and smartphones. This means your data/IP is everywhere, more difficult to keep trace of than ever before, but that has been covered in separate blogs!

In a previous life, when you had an on-site server running Microsoft Exchange and you deleted an email you would call that nice young man or lady in IT. You would tell them the name of the email or subject header and when you deleted it and they would go away and dig out the backup tapes, restore it back to Exchange and, hey presto, you had it back safe in your inbox. Now if you are running Office365, unless that email has been archived, you have lost it for ever.

If you are running Salesforce or Microsoft CRM as a service and your sales staff remove data before leaving the business and decide to delete everything, then you are in trouble. Why? Because it is not backed up and you can’t restore it from a previous version.

Get the picture? Fortunately, Unleashed has an answer to that dilemma. We have a brilliant Cloud to Cloud backup solution. To learn more, get in touch.
